Ecology of Place

I have a dream, a crazy, far reaching, long lasting dream. I want to document each of North America's major ecosystems through scientific observation and translate them into art that we can use in our daily lives.
+
I want people to build connections to their local (or distant) ecosystems through everyday routines. When we reach for our coffee in the morning I want it to be a reminder of the species that we share this place with. When we break bread around a table with close friends sharing good food on quality dinnerware, I want you to tell stories of your latest adventures in places that bring you life.
+
I believe through these connections and education of specific species we become more aware of their interdependence and significance on this planet.
+
As our planet undergoes dynamic shifts; populations change, fire dynamics are upheavaled, phenology is altered and drought and water scarcity become an everyday norm, I want you to also remember the joy of watching seasonal migrations.
+
I want you to reach for a mug with a species on it that first brings you joy and second reminds you that each small piece of the puzzle is part of something much bigger. How one little moth is a keystone species for a whole ecosystem. How their ability to pollinate the Joshua Tree has allowed it survive some of the harshest climates in our country. It is our connection to place, and species, that will ultimately bring us a deeper awareness and purpose through our changing world.
+
This is a project of art, of science, of beauty and your place within it.

Come on the journey with me.
